  Maps of Vietnam

All maps available on this page were produced by the Army Map Service, Corps of Engineers, US Army. The production dates are 1963 through 1966.  These maps are the Transverse Mercator Projection type with a scale of 1:50,000, unless noted otherwise. This was one the most common maps used by ground forces during the Vietnam War.

Every map has a legend. Each legend is quite different due to the different characteristics reflected on that individual map. Here is a sample of one part of one map's legend:  PHOTO

Every map has an index. The index shows which other maps border that map. The country of South Vietnam consisted of approximately 65 of these maps; I am not sure of the exact count.

Each map has an identification number.  That number is also used for other maps surrounding that map, with Roman Numerals used to distinguish them. An example is maps numbered 6852 I, 6852 II, 6852 III, and 6852 IV.  I have heard the term "common cluster" used when describing these maps.

The maps vary slightly in size. The approximate dimensions are 22 inches by 29 inches. Each map is multi colored and has contour lines showing elevations. I have listed each map by its number.  Sorry but I cannot go through them to look for specific locations.  To spend that much time would elevate the prices too high. All maps offered are new, old stock. Parentheses show date of printing. Click on Blue hyper link for appropriate image.

Here is a sample of high mountainous terrain void of life. Each grid square is 1000 meters by 1000 meters. The upper right and lower left corners of the image will show the benchmarks listing the high points of the contour lines: Sample

Since the Republic of Vietnam existed for only 21 years, the collecting interest has rapidly increased.  The Vietnam Veteran usually shows the greatest interest but the area is growing amongst the younger generation of military collectors. A map serves as a great gift to a Vietnam Vet. Veterans' immediate family members have been my biggest customers.
